Redgate Software has acquired SQL Manager, a data discovery and classification tool, from SysKit to add to its portfolio of SQL Server tools.

According to Redgate, “SQL Manager is already making headway in the [data privacy] market and its data classification functionality will be developed further before the newly renamed SQL Estate Manager is released in early 2018 as part of a complete data privacy and protection solution”.

In a related move, Redgate Investments has made a significant investment in SysKit, the developers of SQL Manager and also solutions for SharePoint, Office 365 and Citrix.

Cyber Essentials is a UK government-backed, industry supported scheme to help organisations protect themselves against common cyber attacks. The government has stated that “we believe this scheme offers the right balance between providing additional assurance of an organisation’s commitment to implementing cyber security to third parties, while retaining a simple and low cost mechanism for doing so”.

Microsoft has made its Azure B-Series cloud instances generally available, meaning customers can use them for production workloads. B-Series instances allow customers to move workloads to a cheaper, lower performance tier that can still handle spikes of CPU demand.

“These are useful for workloads like web servers, small databases and development or test environments where CPU utilization is low most of the time but spikes for short durations. These sizes give you extreme cost flexibility and flexible value”, said Corey Sanders, director of Compute at Microsoft Azure.
