Microsoft offers free SQL Server 2016 licences to Oracle customers

With an offer entitled “Break free from Oracle”, Microsoft is attempting to lure Oracle customers to SQL Server 2016. The offer page states that SQL Server is more secure, faster and more feature-rich than Oracle, and says now is the time to escape Oracle’s “frustrating pricing plans and surprise add-ons”.

Microsoft will be hoping to appeal to customers unhappy with Oracle’s recent retiral of their lowest cost server products and the introduction of thread throttling in Oracle Standard Edition Two. The offer is dependent on a three-year Software Assurance commitment.

Pro DBA supports and manages many mission-critical Oracle and SQL Server environments for its clients, and is the perfect choice of service partner for organisations migrating between Oracle and SQL Server.
