Article Summary:
What Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud offers, where it fits and what to validate before moving an Oracle workload.

Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud is the current form of the partnership first announced in 2024. It places Oracle database services on OCI infrastructure in Google Cloud data centres, allowing applications and analytics in Google Cloud to use Oracle database capabilities through a more integrated commercial and technical model.
What the service changes
Oracle's service overview describes Oracle database infrastructure in Google Cloud, Google Cloud Marketplace purchasing and integration with Google Cloud services. This is different from running Oracle Database yourself on a generic virtual machine: Oracle operates the database service and underlying OCI platform.
- Oracle database services in Google Cloud data centres
- Marketplace procurement and consolidated commercial workflows
- Connectivity to Google Cloud applications and data services
- Oracle support for the managed database layer
Where it can fit
The service can suit organisations that want application, analytics or AI services in Google Cloud while retaining Oracle database features, operational tooling or engineered-system performance. It can also reduce the complexity of a traditional cross-cloud connection where the application and database sit in separate public cloud regions.
Fit is workload-specific. Measure latency, throughput, data transfer, operational ownership and failure behaviour rather than relying on a reference diagram.
Choose the database service deliberately
Exadata Database Service offers a high level of database control and Oracle RAC-oriented architecture. Autonomous AI Database automates more database administration. The right choice depends on feature dependencies, operational control, performance, availability, compliance and skills.
Confirm database version and support horizons against Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy. A cloud destination does not remove application certification or upgrade work.
Plan migration and rollback together
Discovery should identify source platform, database version, options, size, change rate, encryption, external integrations and tolerated outage. Select an online or offline method from those facts. Build the rollback decision and data reconciliation process before the production move.
- Compatibility and feature assessment
- Network and identity design
- Migration rehearsal with production-like volume
- Cutover and rollback thresholds
- Backup, recovery and failover tests
Define the operating model
Document which team owns Oracle service configuration, Google Cloud networking, security alerts, database performance, patch scheduling, cost and incident escalation. Integrated infrastructure still crosses supplier and team boundaries. Run a failure exercise before launch so the escalation route is proven.
