Performance issues were affecting critical trading databases

A City-based commodities trading company asked Pro DBA to urgently review performance problems across its critical Oracle environment.

An Oracle Certified Tuning Expert spent three days on-site, working methodically through the issues raised by the client.

Slow exports and expensive SQL were traced to their causes

A nightly Data Pump export had increased from under one hour to four hours. Pro DBA identified an unusual wait caused by an Oracle bug and applied a workaround.

AWR reports were also generated for peak trading periods to identify the SQL statements consuming the most resources. The findings and recommended changes were presented to the client, with the resulting adjustments improving performance.

Backup contention and intermittent hangs were addressed

The nightly RMAN backup was moved from the primary database to the standby, removing contention with critical end-of-day processing.

Intermittent hangs were traced to network latency affecting Data Guard in Maximum Availability mode. Pro DBA recommended Oracle Active Data Guard Far Sync to address the acknowledgement delays between the primary and standby systems.
