Moving 20TB away from legacy RAC infrastructure

An NHS Trust needed to modernise the database platform supporting its live and data warehouse environments.

Pro DBA migrated the 20TB estate from a legacy two-node Oracle Real Application Clusters environment to a new three-node RAC cluster running on Oracle Enterprise Linux 8.

Core database and application platforms were upgraded

The databases were upgraded from Oracle 11gR2 to 19c, with Oracle Grid Infrastructure 19c providing a more resilient and scalable cluster foundation.

Pro DBA also installed and configured six WebLogic servers with Forms and Reports 12c, plus four Oracle REST Data Services servers using Apache Tomcat for the Trust’s APEX applications.

Legacy replication was replaced with GoldenGate

The previous Oracle Streams configuration between the live and data warehouse databases was replaced with Oracle GoldenGate 21c using Microservices Architecture.

This gave the Trust a more current replication platform with lower maintenance overhead and a stronger foundation for future growth.
